Chase Sui Wonders might just be on her way to becoming the Queen of Staten Island.
After playing a couple in the 2022 comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies, Chase, 26, and Pete Davidson, 29, are once again bringing that chemistry to the screen—this time, in the Saturday Night Live alum's semi-autobiographical comedy series Bupkis. But as Chase recalls, for her and Pete—who went public with their off-screen romance earlier this year—the chemistry was there from the start.
"[Pete and I] became fast friends on Bodies, and it was just clear that we could work together super well. He's such a pro, and acting with him is my favorite thing," she told Nylon in an interview published May 9. "As soon as I got onto Bupkis, it felt like we were flowing again."
And that level of closeness and ease can be found in their real-life relationship, too.
"We talk about everything," Chase revealed, "and we are very open with each other about everything, and it feels like what's happening in our relationship is very sacred."
Chase and Pete first sparked romance rumors in January when they were spotted out at a Brooklyn eatery before sealing things with a kiss on a PDA-packed outing to Universal Studios a little more than a week later. Soon after, the pair embarked on a romantic Hawaiian getaway, before picking up more speed on a date at the Daytona 500 in February. The two even spent a day on Martha Stewart's farm, after which the lifestyle maven wrote on Instagram that they are a "very cute couple."
But despite the public interest in her relationship with Pete, Chase hasn't let it shake her.
"The first initial shock was super disorienting, but after that it just becomes... it's like a video game," she shared. "It feels like another weird player came into the video game. I feel like I'm still on my own path. My life hasn't changed that much."
As for how she would compare her and Pete's characters in Bodies Bodies Bodies to the one in their new Peacock show?
"The relationship's a lot less toxic in Bupkis than it is in Bodies, which is a lot more fun to play," Chase noted. "But even in Bodies, we would do all those dark scenes and then we'd be like, ‘This sh-t's crazy! This is so dark.'"
In Bupkis, Chase plays Nikki, Pete's on-again, off-again girlfriend. The relationship bears an authenticity that Chase appreciates, giving viewers a very different glimpse into Pete's dating life.
"We're playing complicated people who have a deep, deep love for one another just trying to figure themselves out along the way and be delicate with each other," the Generation actress added. "That's where the beauty comes in."
Catch a glimpse of Chase and Pete's on-screen chemistry in season one of Bupkis, now streaming on Peacock.
(E! and Peacock are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
